The Grierson Trust has announce the 2015 BBC Grierson Trustees’ Award will be presented to Kim Longinotto.
They say: ‘Kim has directed groundbreaking documentaries for over 35 years which which focus on and explore the lives of women across the globe. She has consistently given voice to the voiceless in some of the most repressed and difficult societies throughout her career.’

• The award will be given at the Grierson Awards on Monday, 2 November at The Mermaid, London.

The course gives an introduction to the commercial audio-visual industry from archive to exploitation and is designed for anyone, from anywhere in the world, who needs to know more about the footage industry – image archivists, footage researchers, production managers, producers, directors, archive librarians and anyone wanting to know about this industry – whatever your media background, this is a wonderful opportunity to expand your knowledge and appreciation of the world of footage archives, their systems and uses.

Day 1 of the course at the Imperial War Museum covers the history of film and video technology and includes some hands-on experience using different film formats. Day 2 takes delegates out of town to experience restoration processes in action at Pinewood Studios and then it is back to the fast turnaround world of media management and newsroom workflow at Sky News. Day 3 covers metadata, cataloguing and clip sales at AP Archive and Getty Images.

Stock footage agency Dissolve has announced it will add stock photos to its creative offering on 1 October with an immediate launch of more than 200,000 royalty-free stock images.

ITN Source signs first stock footage distribution deal via Dissolve

A collection of several thousand royalty-free stock footage clips sourced from the ITN news archives will be available covering a variety of popular categories including Industry, Environment, Landscapes, Aerials, Cities, Agriculture, Tourism, and Weather.

People: Zoe Moore now British Pathé Biz Dev Manager – UK & European Licencing

British Pathé – the newsreel archive – has appointed BBC veteran Zoe Moore Business Development Manager with responsibility for clients in the UK, Europe and Asia. She will license footage from British Pathé’s collection of 85,000 films.
They say: ‘Ms Moore has extensive licensing and archive experience, having worked at BBC Worldwide for a decade. For the last four years, her focus has been primarily on the education market and she leaves the post of Learning Operations Manager at BBC Worldwide Learning to work at British Pathé.’
“I am delighted to have joined the team,” says Ms Moore. “British Pathé is an outstanding business that holds unique content and has a unique reputation in the industry.”
Alastair White, the General Manager of British Pathé, appointed Ms Moore. “We couldn’t be happier that Zoe agreed to become part of our team,” he says. “She’s incredibly talented and brings with her a wealth of experience in the industry.”

AP/British Movietone upload 1 million minutes of newsreel archives to You Tube


The Associated Press and British Movietone, one of the world’s most comprehensive newsreel archives, are together bringing more than 1 million minutes of digitised film footage to YouTube.
Content mix will also include surprising videos from different regions across the UK, fashion through the ages, sporting coups, entertainment, extreme weather, technological innovations, the evolution of eating and drinking habits, political milestones and historical moments. They will be continually refreshed with up-to-date contemporary footage.

They say: Available for all to explore, the channels will also be powerful educational tools and a source of inspiration for history enthusiasts and documentary filmmakers.
“The AP archive footage, combined with the British Movietone collection, creates an incredible visual journey of the people and events that have shaped our history,” said Alwyn Lindsey, AP’s director of international archive. “At AP we are always astonished at the sheer breadth of footage that we have access to, and the upload to YouTube means that, for the first time, the public can enjoy some of the oldest and most remarkable moments in history.”
